The Society of Seniors 2021 Players of the Year

December 20, 2021

The Society of Seniors announces the 2021 Players Of The Year. SOS Members earn POY Points throughout the year. In 2021 eight events were played. Starting in February with the 2021 Spring Classic played in Orlando, Florida at the Orange County National Golf Club and ending in early December with the 2021 Ralph Bogart, played at Crown Colony G&CC in Ft. Myers.

SENIOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Rusty Strawn, McDonough, GA, played in six SOS events in 2021, winning three. Strawn started the year with a win at the Spring Classic at Orange County National, followed that with a win at the Dale Morey Senior Championship at Innisbrook in October, then capped the year with a win at the Ralph Bogart in December at Crown Colony G&CC in Ft. Myers. Strawn’s successful 2021 included two Golfweek senior event wins and a win at the Reynolds Senior. Five other top five finishes sprinkled throughout 2021 was enough for a second place finish in Amateurgolf.com’s year end Senior Rankings. Strawn’s 1011 SOS POY points was enough to squeak by Allen Peake, Macon, GA, at 400 points.

SUPER SENIOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Robin Rubrecht, Newburg, IN, also played in six 2021 SOS events amassing 640 SOS POY Super Senior points. Robin’s April win at the Senior Masters at Indian Wells Golf Resort, was only the beginning of his year of good golf. Rubrecht’ notched two top five SOS finishes, a second at the Founders at Sandpiper GC and a third at the Bogart at Crown Colony. Robin also recorded a win at the Heron Creek Senior and two top five finishes in Golfweek events. Jeff Burda, Modesto, CA was second to Rubrecht with 480 points.

LEGEND PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Jim Grubbs played in only three SOS events in 2021. But the good doctor from Austin, TX made every moment count. A win at the Senior Masters in April at Indian Wells Golf Resort was followed by strong finishes at the Hesler (3) in July at Glade Springs Resort and the Founders (3) at Sandpiper GC. Jim’s 400 SOS POY Legend points was a slim 10 points ahead of Peter Van Ingen, Palm Beach, FL at 390 points.

GRAND MASTER PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Jim DuBois, Coral Springs, entered five SOS events in 2021, taking the top prize in two. Jim’s year started slowly with a seventh place finish at the Spring Classic at Orange County National and a 15th place at Indian Wells Golf Resort. But the 2020 Grand Master POY turned on the jets on his way to the finish. DuBois won at the Hesler at Glade Springs followed that with a sixth place finish at Sandpiper and a year-end win at the Bogart at Crown Colony. DuBois had 630 SOS POY Grand Master points. Ron Johnson, Walnut Creek CA was second with 440 points.
