INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – 36 holes are in the books at Indian Wells Golf Resort on the Celebrity Course. Morning conditions again were ideal in the desert, but the afternoon temperatures again reached the mid 90s with just a slight breeze.
Trae Cassell, of Rancho Sante Fe, CA, has surged in the Senior division lead at 6-under after backing up his first round 68 with a 2-under 70 on day two for a 138 total. Cassell played steady golf on Wednesday, making three birdies against a lone bogey. Brian Hoops, of Tempe, AZ, made a move in shooting 3-under to stand at that same number for the tournament after starting the day even par. Overnight leader John Bearrie, of Hollsopple, PA, is now 1-under for the tournament and tied for third place with Kevin VandenBerg, of Pulaski, NY.
In the Super Senior division, 2022 champion Jerry Rose, of American Fork, UT, backed up his first round 70 with another 2-under performance. Rose is three strokes ahead of Gregory Goode, of Salina, KS, who shot 1-under 71 today to get into red numbers through two rounds. Stevie Cannady, of Pooler, GA, sits in third place at 1-over total after his round of 2-under 70 today. Hollis Sullivan, of Fort Worth, TX, had the low round in the Super Senior division with a 3-under 69.
It’s crowded at the top of the Legend division, as Les Devitt, of Scottsdale, AZ, posted a two round total of 4-over 148 and inched ahead of Peter Van Ingen, of Palm Beach, FL, who is just a stroke behind the leader. George Walker, of Fairhope, AL, got himself back in contention with a 1-under 71 on Wednesday to sit at 6-over total and in a tie for third with Jeffrey Knox, of Jupiter, FL.
George Dillon, of Sun City West, AZ, has grabbed the lead in the Super Legend division at 3-over 147. Dillon carded a 1-over 73 today and leads by one over defending champion Gerry Graham, of Mesa, AZ. Jack Marin, of Durham, NC, sits in third place at 5-over 149.
