RESULTS: 70th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship
SAN ANTONIO, Texas. – It was a battle of survival as the 70th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship bracket at Oak Hills Country Club is now whittled down to the final eight players, two of which are Society of Seniors members. Michael Anderson, of Novi, MI, took out fellow-member Tony Wise, of Georgetown, KY, in the afternoon Round of 16 on Tuesday, winning 3&1.
Also advancing to the Quarterfinals is Greg Sanders, of Anthem, AZ, who took down Society member and 2021 U.S. Senior Amateur Champion Gene Elliott, of Norwalk, IA, by a margin of 4 & 3.

Others on the wrong end of business on Tuesday afternoon included 2022 U.S. Senior Amateur Champion Rusty Strawn, of Eatonton, GA, who fell to 2013 U.S. Mid-Am Champion and former Walker Cup Captain, Michael McCoy, of Des Moines, IA. McCoy advanced by way of a 4 & 3 victory over Strawn, as he played steady golf to the tune of 2-under par through the 15 hole match.
Bryan Hoops, of Scottsdale, AZ, fought back to tie his Round of 16 match against Jacobo Cestino, of Spain, and forced extra holes. Hoops was 2-down through 16, then dug deep to win both 17 and 18 to get even. But in the end, it was Cestino who came away with the win by making par on the third extra hole.
