RESULTS: 70th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship

SAN ANTONIO, Texas. – The 70th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship is in progress at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio as stroke play qualifying concluded on Sunday.  More than 30 Society of Seniors members qualified for the championship, which was relocated to Oak Hills due to hurricane damage at Biltmore Forest in Asheville, NC.  Match play will begin on Monday with the round of 64 matches.  John Kemp, of England, grabbed medalist honors for the second straight year by posting seven-under 135 in stroke play.  Kemp shared medalist honors in 2024 with Roger Newsom, of Virginia Beach, VA.

Leading the charge among the membership are Greg Sanders, of Anthem, AZ, and Terrence Miskell, of New Braunfels, TX.  Both men posted 36-hole totals of three-under 139 (Tied 3rd).  Miskell also tied for the low round of day two with his five-under 66, matching Jon Brown, of Adel, IA.

Finishing tied for tenth at even par are Bryan Hoops, of Tempe, AZ, and Roger Newsom, of Virginia Beach.  Just one stroke behind them is the pair of Greg Earnhardt, of Greensboro, NC, and Tony Wise, of Georgetown, KY.  Wise recently won the Sunnehanna Senior Amateur in a playoff over fellow-member Rick Stimmel, of Pittsburgh, PA.

Savannah, GA residents Jack Hall (T23) and Danny Nelson (T25) also advance to match play as Hall posted 144 and Nelson 145, respectively.  Joining Nelson in the tie for 25th are Trae Cassell, of Rancho Santa Fe, CA, Shaw Pritchett, of Montgomery, AL, Doug Clapp, of Manomet, MA, and Michael Anderson, of Novi, MI.

Three members will head to a 12-for-5 playoff on Monday morning for the final match play spots, including Brian Keenan, of Tampa, FL, Rick Stimmel, of Pittsburgh, PA, and John Bearrie, of Johnstown, PA.
