RESULTS: 7th National Super Senior & 25th John Kline Championship

LUFKIN, Texas – Mother Nature threw a wrench into the schedule today in Lufkin during round two of the 7th National Super Senior and 25th John Kline Championships.  After dodging some early weather, lightning caused a suspension of play at 11:15 a.m. that would last two and a half hours.  Challenging conditions prevailed the rest of the day as players faced wet conditions and played through periods of rain showers in the afternoon.

David Nelson (Littleton, CO), inched ahead of the pack after overcoming a tough start.  Nelson finished strong to post a second round of 74 and a +3 total of 147 to lead the Super Senior division.  Sitting just one shot behind is a trio of challengers in a tie for second that includes Chuck Gardner (Texarkana, TX), Keith Holmes (Macon, GA), and Paige Hood (Atlanta, GA).  Gary Durbin (Houston, TX) and Robert Brooks (West Des Moines, IA) were the only two players to shoot under par rounds as each posted 71s.  Durbin sits at +5 overall, and Brooks at +7, as they look to challenge on Wednesday.

In the Legend division, Steve Humphrey (Ocala, FL) continues to lead the way despite a tough finish in posting a second round 77.  Humphrey sits at +5 and is three shots ahead of Evan Long (Charlotte, NC), Steven Ritzman (Elkhorn, NE), and Marshall Morgan (Fort Worth, TX).

Michael Mahoney (La Jolla, CA) also overcame a shaky start on Tuesday and carded a second round 76 to go with his opening 69.  He’s at +1 overall and leads Sam Robinson (Jacksonville Beach, FL) by five strokes heading to the final round.
