RESULTS: 7th National Super Senior & 25th John Kline Championship
LUFKIN, Texas – The Society is visiting east Texas for the 7th National Super Senior & 25th John Kline Championships held at Crown Colony Country Club. The forecast threatened light rain early, and the winds kicked up as the day progressed, making for challenging scoring conditions.
The Super Senior leaderboard is completely bunched at the top, as five players are tied for the lead after posting rounds of 1-over par, 73. That group includes David Nelson (Littleton, CO), defending champion Steve Maddalena (Jackson, MI), Chuck Gardner (Texarkana, TX), Alex Moore (Dallas, TX), and Scott Ray (Central City, KY). Plenty of challengers are within striking distance.
In the Legend division, Steve Humphrey (Ocala, FL) leads the way at even par after a solid round of 72 on Monday. Bill Long (Southern Pines, NC) is two shots back at +2, while Tom Nielson (Edmond, OK) and Randy King (Horseshoe Bay, TX) round out the top three at +3.
Michael Mahoney (La Jolla, CA) had the round of the day in the Super Legend division with a sparkling round of 3-under par, 69. He beat his age by 15 strokes! In second place is Sam Robinson (Jacksonville Beach, FL) at +1, followed by Jim DuBois (Coral Springs, FL) in third at +2.
The second round gets underway on Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. off of the 1st and 10th tees.
