Edgar ‘Ned’ Baber

Fellow Society member Edgar M. “Ned” Baber of Roanoke, Va., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the age of 87, with his family by his side.  Ned was an avid lover of golf. He won the 1960 Virginia State Amateur Championship and many other titles over 75 years.  He teamed up with Romie Holder to win the Super Senior division of the 2007 Ed Tutwiler Four-Ball tournament at Forest Creek.  He was also the Executive Director of the Roanoke Valley Golf Hall of Fame for over 40 years.

Ned had a career spanning 46 years as an Equitable Advisor in Richmond and Roanoke and was a member of Equitable’s Hall of Fame.

He was a long-time member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Roanoke, Va.

Ned was the son of the late Charles G. Baber and Lucy H.M. Baber of Lynchburg, Va. He is survived by his wife, Cary W. Baber; son, E. Miller Baber Jr. (Hilarie); daughter, Cary B. Daly (Mike); sister, Jane B. White (Kenneth); granddaughter, Bailey M. Baber; grandson, John M. Daly; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

A family-only service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, May 25, 2024. A Celebration of Life reception will follow at Roanoke County Club at 4 p.m. for all.
